Geothermal Loop Installation

The Arronco Geothermal Advantage

Arronco Comfort Air is one of the few geothermal contractors in the country that offers both Equipment side installation services and Loop services in house. We own and operate our own Drilling equipment as well as excavation equipment. We added the loop services in 2006 to better serve our customers by controlling the scheduling and quality of the loop installations.

Find Out How Much You Can Save

You will also benefit by knowing that if an issue were to ever arise with the system, Arronco will be the one to take care of it regardless of where the problem is. When other companies utilize subcontractors and an issue arises, many times the heating contractor is pointing at the loop contractor, the loop contractor is pointing at the heating contractor, leaving the customer stuck in the middle. By having both loop and installation services in house, you can have peace of mind that Arronco will have full control and responsibility of the entire installation and service after the sale!

Arronco installs both Closed and open loop systems. Closed-loop systems circulate a water-based solution through a “loop system “ of small-diameter, high-density polyethylene underground pipes. Closed-loop systems can be installed horizontally, vertically or in a pond. Open-loop systems use an existing water well or surface water. Whether the system is open or closed, heat is transferred to or from the structure, regardless of outdoor temperature, to provide year-round comfort.

VertLoopThe ideal choice for a geothermal heat pump when available land surface is limited. Well drilling equipment is used to bore approximately 5.5” diameter holes from 150 to 300 feet deep. 2 to 6 holes that are approximately 10-12’ apart are drilled for the average residential geothermal loop system. With this system we are able to put an average residential loop in a 12×12 area making geothermal an option in even very small yards. The abundant limestone in the majority of Kentucky, Southern Ohio and Southern Indiana gives us a huge advantage for installing Vertical loops – Limestone makes for easy, affordable drilling and has great heat transfer properties. With this advantage we are able to install vertical loops at much less cost than in many other areas of the country. The vertical closed loop is utilized in about 85% of our installations.

HorzLoopOften used when adequate land surface is available. Depending on geothermal system needs and space available, pipes are placed in trenches that range in length from 100 to 400 feet.

PondLoopVery economical to install when a large body of water is available for use by the geothermal heating and cooling system. Coils of pipe are simply placed on the bottom of the pond or lake to capture the geothermal energy. Ponds as small as 1/4 acre can be utilized for pond loops as long as we have 8’ or more of water depth part of the pond.

OpenLoopIn ideal conditions, an open-loop application can be the most economical type of geothermal system. These use groundwater from a well as a direct energy source. We will need a water source capable of producing a minimum of 10 gallons per minute of clean water in order to utilize this type of system.
