AC Troubleshooting Guide

As the summer weather begins ramping up, air conditioning units begin working harder. At some point in the heat of summer, something may go wrong, leaving you with no cool air in the hot weather.

In need of air conditioning repair or replacement? Contact Arronco Comfort Air online or call our HVAC technicians at 513-474-7555.

Here are three of the most common problems your air conditioning system may face. If you run into these AC issues, you can save money and time by trying a few of these troubleshooting tips and techniques:

My AC Won’t Turn On

If you cannot get your air conditioning system to turn on at all, it means you most likely have a blown circuit breaker or fuse, an improperly set or faulty thermostat, or an internal switch set to “off.”

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Make sure it’s receiving power from the electrical panel
  • Reset the circuit breaker or replace your fuse
  • Check your thermostat settings to make sure it’s on “cool” and not set to “heat” or “off”
  • Check that all switches in and around the AC unit are set to the “on” position

My AC Is On But Isn’t Cooling

If your AC unit is running but doesn’t cool well, it could be a result of something blocking the airflow in your system (filters, registers, or compressors). Another reason for this issue could be low refrigerant levels.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Check your thermostat to ensure it’s working properly
  • Check the condenser to see if it’s dirty or blocked – if it is, clean it, and remove the blockage
  • Clean and/or change your filter
  • Check and/or clean the outdoor compressor

I Have Poor Airflow Throughout My Home

Poor airflow typically results from a dirty air filter or ductwork that’s blocked or even disconnected.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • Ensure your air filter is clean – if it’s dirty, clean or replace the filter
  • Check all ductwork to ensure it’s not disconnected or blocked
  • Check register dampers on vents in the room to ensure they’re set to an open position
